Your Ward Borough Councillor
Your Residents' Association Councillor for Stamford Ward is Cllr.Steve Bridger

Steve has lived in the Borough since he was a child and in Stamford Ward for the last 30 years so is well aware of everything that has and is happening within this Ward and surrounding Wards.

Steve stood in the 2015 elections having just retired determined to put something back into the area that he has lived, worked and enjoyed with his family so decided that being a Councillor was the way forward!

Having been elected in 2015, re-elected in 2019 and  again in 2023, it shows that residents appreciate the personal touch that is always there to assist where possible by a non-political Councillor. Even if a question is not Council associated then guidance can always be given as to the best route to take.

About the Residents' Association
What's important to us
·       Taking a non-political approach to serving our community which means local people who do not have a political party agenda to fulfil are making local decisions about local issues.
·        That you, the Resident should be able to tell us what concerns and affects you and that your Residents’ Association and elected RA councillors will do their best to advise and represent you.
·       Residents should be kept informed about what is happening in Stamford and the rest of the borough. To keep residents in touch with local matter most of the Residents Associations have their own websites and publish magazines on a regular basis about their local issues
·         We can’t promise that you will always get the result that you want! Our Borough Council does not have the power over issues managed by *Conservative-controlled Surrey County Council - such as transport, roads, and schools or by central government such as housing and building policy - but we can lobby and speak on your behalf.
Residents Association of Epsom and Ewell = Local people working together for the local community of Stamford & Horton Wards

Origins

The local politics of Epsom & Ewell have for a good part of the twentieth century been bound up with an almost unique form of democratic process. With the enormous expansion of housing in the 1930s, local residents' associations were formed to give residents a forum for local debate, to organise social activities on the new estates, and to represent local views. At the beginning of the last century, many candidates for election to local government stood as independents. With increasing party-politicisation of national and local government, Epsom & Ewell stood out against the tide. The residents' associations themselves put up candidates for election to the Epsom & Ewell Borough Council, and their candidates have been in control for over 85 years.
This makes us the only non-political organisation i.e. not Conservative, Liberal Democrat, Labour in the UK to be in this position and we are proud of it.
How do I become a Member?
If you would like to become part of a team that cares about its local area then please join us.
Members of the SHoRA are invited to participate in the Annual General Meetings that are held annually and advertised in the newsletter, on this site, through Facebook, Twitter and on the noticeboards around the Borough.

It costs £5.00 per year (renewable annually through subscription) for a family to help and support us by paying through PayPal© or on Credit Card on this website.
The funds raised annually go towards events, circulation of information and ensuring that we have elected RA Councillors who can support the residents and local communities when needed.

The Newsletters and website management are part-funded through advertisers who realise that the RA's are non-political in their ways and wish to support this concept.

Please support us to ensure that we can continue the work that has kept your Borough non-political for over 85 years.
How could you help as a Member?

We are always pleased to recruit members to act as road representatives. They are the eyes and ears of the residents; identifying any problems or issues arising in the ward, affecting, people.

Road representatives deliver our newsletters, and, if they wish to, are allowed to vote at committee meetings.

We also need people who are committed to working for the benefit of all residents by sitting on our   Committee.

If you can help by being an active Road Rep or would even consider becoming a Ward  Councillor then please email: jw@stamfordrandhortonra.org.uk

The SHoRA is currently managed by a committee including 1 current Councillor who wish to ensure that residents of the ward enjoy a borough that is both pleasant to live in and a pleasure to work in.
